Leave what you can, take what you need

Located at Wānaka Wastebusters and the Wānaka Community Hub, the first two of five community produce stands are now in place.  Anyone is welcome to donate or collect fresh fruits and vegetables, jams and preserves, and eggs and baked goods from the stands – helping us reduce food waste and promote kai sharing across the community.  If you find yourself with surplus produce in your garden this summer, just pop it into one of the stands.

Another two stands are due to be installed in Luggate and at the Wānaka Recreation Centre in the New Year, and the Albert Town Community Association (ATCA) have also launched a stand on the Sherwin Avenue reserve.

In other gardening news, the LINK Community Gardens at the Hub are all set up for this growing season – with a full complement of six community groups, individuals and families.  A spring clean-up and replanting session took place in early November, and the gardens are looking fantastic after all the early December rain!

The project provides an opportunity for individuals, families and groups who may not have the space, resources or expertise to plant at home.  Last year’s gardeners feasted on a huge range of produce and learned lifelong skills from mentors like Dr. Compost and Grow Wānaka volunteers.  This year, our Foodbank volunteers will manage one of the gardens to supply food parcels with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Community Networks/LINK will be closed over the Christmas period. Our opening hours are below, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.
