Is the Foodbank for me?

Wānaka is a great place to live, but life here isn't always easy. It's a fine balance to pay for power, petrol, kai, and rent… all it takes is an unexpected medical, car, or school cost to make life unaffordable. That’s when a food parcel can take the pressure off living costs for a while.

Food parcels are available to anyone locally in need of a little extra help to make ends meet.

The process is simple: Call, email, or pop into the Hub and speak to one of our team members at reception, who will ask a few confidential questions about your situation. A volunteer or staff member will pack a food parcel based on your food preferences – including fresh produce, dairy, meat, and pantry staples, plus nappies, toiletries and lunchbox snacks.

To show how the Foodbank may be able to help you, we asked some of our clients to share their experiences:

·         “I found myself a full-time single mother unexpectedly and had to juggle multiple jobs as well as drop off and pick my daughter up from Kindy. It got to the point that I became so sick from burn out that I had to ask for help. The Foodbank was amazing, and I was able to get ahead enough to balance out my responsibilities.”

·         “When I arrived in town, my car engine had ceased and Covid-19 had seen many businesses close down. I was not prepared for so many challenges, and the Foodbank helped me get through that first month. Then I got a job, and everything went uphill from there.”
