Garden and gather this week

Neighbours Day Aotearoa encourages community building across New Zealand by celebrating the connections that happens across the fence, down the street, or over a cuppa. This year’s theme is “Kai Connections” – recognising the role sharing food plays in connecting with friends and neighbours.

If you are a keen gardener, looking to try something new, be sure to pop down to the Wānaka Recreation Centre this week to join one of these family-friendly community garden drop-in sessions. Whether it’s seed sowing and swapping, pot painting, bee hotel building or harvesting and composting with Dr Compost, Garden and Gather has something for everyone to earn new skills and make connections.

The free drop-in sessions are as follows, with no booking required:

  • 22nd March - Seed sowing, swap and paint a plant pot

  • 23rd March - Build and paint your own bee hotel

  • 24th March – Harvesting and composting with Dr Compost, plus a produce and recipe swap

If you can, don’t forget to bring along some excess produce from your garden to put in the Rec Centre’s Community Produce Stand to share with our community.
