Free money clinics

Wānaka is a great place to live, but life here isn't always easy. It's a fine balance to pay for power, petrol, kai, and rent – sometimes, all it takes is an unexpected medical, car, or school cost to make life unaffordable.

This month, we’re reminding the community of the financial support and advice available locally.

Last week, we discussed the financial support Community Networks/LINK can offer and some of the free and confidential support services we can connect you with.

One such service is offered by Family Works Financial Mentor Nicole Huddleston, who covers the Upper Clutha area and can help you better understand budgeting, debt, financial products, loans and other money topics, reduce any ongoing cycles of debt and work out a financial plan that is right for you.

Nicole is offering a new Money Clinic once a month on a Thursday morning between 9.00am and midday at the Wānaka Community Hub. These free one-to-one sessions are designed to help people with any money questions they may have. The next date is March 23, 2023. Contact Community Networks/LINK to book a 30-minute appointment.

Budget advisers from Central Otago Budgeting Services also cover this area. They can meet you at the Hub or your home and help you establish a financial safety net to stay on track, pay off debt and reach your future goals faster. COBS can also offer student support including budgeting workshops and help with student loans or setting up bank accounts.

For more information or to find out what support is best for your situation, head to our website, get in touch or come and see us at the Wānaka Community Hub, Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm.
