Can you help us to Reconnect Seniors?

This month, we’re sharing an update on the Reconnecting Seniors project, which started off in November 2022.

This project, funded by Te Hau Toka and led by the Reconnecting Seniors Network (formerly the Champion for Older Persons Group) aims to help seniors get and stay connected in the community and in their homes, by taking stock of all the current activities and services available; building on what exists; and identifying any gaps or barriers that are hindering seniors wanting to connect.

Last week, we talked about what we’ve been up to so far. This week, we’re sharing what we plan to achieve over the next nine months or so - and how you can get involved as a senior, individual or community group.

First of all, we’d love to hear from seniors in the community about what’s most important to them, to ensure this project has the biggest impact possible. If you have feedback or suggestions about the project or other activities you are part of; what you would like to see more of; what’s working well for you or what barriers make it more difficult for you to spend time with others, then please get in touch.

 We’re currently developing a monthly calendar of all the events and activities that are for and of interest to seniors, and we’ll be sharing this throughout the community. So, please let us know if you’re part of a service or activity that you’d like to contribute, or if you’d be able to help us share the calendar with your members or networks.

 We’re also looking to run some events in the near future, including monthly morning teas and a midwinter dinner. If you’re interesting in some ad hoc volunteering to help with transport or the running of the occasional event, please let us know.
