Wheels To Dunstan
The Wheels to Dunstan transport is a free car service to and from Dunstan Hospital or to the eye clinic in Alexandra for medical appointments.
You can also use the Wheels to Dunstan car to connect with transport to and from Dunedin hospital. The Dunedin bus leaves Cromwell at 7.30 am and leaves Dunedin to return at approx. 3pm
People of any age can use the service and it is typically used by people who don’t own a car, are no longer able to drive or simply can’t afford the trip.
It is driven by a fantastic team of volunteer drivers who will pick you up from your door and deliver you right to where your appointment is.
How do I book the Wheels to Dunstan service?
Call Community Networks 03 443 7799 giving details of your name, address, day and time of your appointment. (Appointments ideally will be between 10.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. to minimise waiting times should there be more than 1 passenger on the car). Please let us know at the time of booking if you are an ACC client and provide your ACC number.
St John Central Otago Health Shuttle- Transport to Dunedin Hospital
This is available from Cromwell Monday-Friday. The shuttle leaves Cromwell St Johns at 7.30 am and returns from Dunedin at approx. 3pm.
Appointments in Dunedin need to be between 11.00am and 2.30pm. Otherwise you can stay overnight and catch the shuttle back the next day.
Cost: The suggested donation is $20 each way. ACC travel fund or Ministry of Health Travel Assistance may be available.
Bookings for the Dunedin shuttle: 0800 785 276 at least before 3pm the day before the appointment
Once you have made your booking for the Dunedin bus we can then book an early shift driver from Wanaka to Cromwell and a late shift driver to meet the Dunedin bus to return to Wanaka.

Can I use the shuttle service to visit someone in hospital?
If you wish to visit someone in Dunstan hospital you may travel on the shuttle if it is already going that day and there is a space. You will have to wait until all the patients on the shuttle have finished their appointments for that day. Please phone Community Networks to enquire.
If you are an ACC client please inform Community Networks when you make your booking? You will need your ACC number and will have some paperwork to fill out on the day of your trip.
