Community Food Bank

We offer food parcels to individuals and families in need in the Upper Clutha region.

Where is it?

The food bank is located in our offices in Brownston Street. This is the only food bank in the Upper Clutha and is stocked with a variety of canned, non-perishable and perishable goods including fresh milk, bread and meat.

How does someone access it?

The food bank is open to anyone. People can come in anytime during business hours, or they are sometimes referred by other agencies.  After a brief interview, to determine the financial and social situation, clients are supported to create a food parcel to suit their own individual needs. If further support is needed a referral can be made to the Budget Advisory Service or any other social support that may be needed or wanted.

Donations to the food bank are gratefully received, and these can be dropped off at the Community Networks office, 73 Brownston Street, or in the marked bin at New World Wanaka. We are fortunate to receive regular donations from church groups and members of the community (thank you!). At Christmas time there is an annual food drive, which the whole community can get behind to collect food for local families in need.

Some items that your local food bank would really appreciate:

  • Rice and pasta
  • Pasta sauces
  • Meats (we have a freezer)
  • Canned fish
  • Crackers, biscuits and muesli bars
  • Baking goods
  • Toiletries
  • Breakfast foods
